God’s Design for Marriage (Part 20)
Recap of 10/13/13:
1. Paul issues a call to live a Spirit-controlled life. As we allow the Holy Spirit to dominate our lives with the Word of God we will walk in wisdom and in the will of God, especially in our relationships.
2. A Biblical theology of marriage:
-God’s desire for the marriage relationship is summarized in the word “oneness,” a monogamous, heterosexual, lifelong union (Genesis 2)
-Roles in marriage are based upon the creation order not culture.
-The Fall brought struggle and conflict into marriage, a battle for control, roles were marred.
-The goal of Ephesians 5 is to reestablish the creation order, to restore proper Biblical roles, which is possible through the power of the Spirit.
3. The Biblical role of men in marriage:
-Exercise loving, servant leadership (Ephesians 5:25-33). Leadership that is:
-sacrificial (not selfish)
-nurturing (seeking for our wife’s full development spiritual and as a person)
-caring (providing for and protecting)
-committed
