The Best Relationship Advice Ever (Part 1)
Bible Text: 1 Peter 3:7-12 | Preacher: Pastor Joe Ricchuiti | Series: 1 Peter, The Best Relationship Advice Ever
Some of the things a man must understand about his wife and marriage are (continued from last message):
-God’s intention for sex in marriage, its importance and challenges (see also 1 Corinthians 7:1ff). “Sexual intimacy is a very important aspect in marriage, yet like each of the other relationship skills, success in this area doesn’t always come naturally. It often takes extra interest, effort and hard work to develop!” (Roger & Becky Tirabassi)
-a man’s focus should not be just his work, but his marriage and his home. He is needed at home.
-a man must provide for the material needs of his wife and family (also seen in the call for “respect” later in verse 8-a sub-meaning of which is provision)
-the need for a protective atmosphere in marriage, in which his wife can feel safe
In addition to living with his wife according to knowledge, a man must also respect his wife. Bestowing honor upon her, treating her with courtesy, thoughtfulness, and kindness.
A man who ignores these injunctions risks having his prayer go unanswered. His spiritual growth and progress will be hindered.
Summary of 1 Peter 3:1-7 in seven questions to ask ourselves, suggested by Warren Wiersbe:
-are we partners or competitors?
-are we helping each other become more spiritual?
-are we depending on the externals or the eternals? The artificial or the real?
-do we understand each other better?
-are we sensitive to each other’s feelings and ideas, or taking each other for granted?
-are we seeing God answer our prayers?
-are we enriched because of our marriage, or robbing each other of God’s blessing?
